Send files without email

No email addresses, no attachments, no inbox. Upload your files, get 3 words, and share them however you like.

The old way

Email was never designed for files. Attachments bounce, land in spam, or get stripped by company filters. And plenty of people you need to send things to do not check email at all.

  • ✕Ask for their email address
  • ✕Attach the file and hope it fits
  • ✕Wait for the bounce message
  • ✕Try again with a smaller file

With Skypost

With Skypost there is no email step at all. Drop your files, get a 3-word password and send those words however you normally talk to that person: a text, a WhatsApp message, a phone call or even a sticky note.

Why skip email for files?

Email attachments have three problems. They are small: most providers stop at 20 to 25 MB. They are unreliable: big attachments bounce, get caught by spam filters or quietly stripped by company mail servers. And they need an email address, which is awkward when you are dealing with a tradesperson, a relative or someone you have just met.

Once an attachment is sent, it also sits in both inboxes forever. That is not ideal for ID documents, payslips or anything else you would rather not leave lying around.

How sending by 3 words works

Go to the Skypost homepage and drop your files in. When the upload finishes you get three random words, for example "lemon-harbour-tiger". Those words are the key to the folder.

Send the words however suits you. Read them out over the phone, text them, put them in a WhatsApp chat or write them on paper. Three ordinary words are much easier to pass on than a long link full of random characters, and much harder to mistype.

The person receiving goes to skypost.co.uk/receive, enters the words and downloads. There is no account to create and nothing to install.

Private by default

Shared folders are never listed or indexed by search engines. Files are encrypted at rest with AES-256, every connection uses HTTPS, and folders delete themselves when they expire: after 7 days on the free plan. More on the security page.

Repeated wrong guesses at a password are rate-limited, so the words cannot simply be brute-forced. You can delete a folder yourself at any time, and paid plans let you switch off or regenerate its secure link.

When it is most useful

Sending documents to a mortgage broker, getting photos off your phone and onto a computer, swapping paperwork with a landlord, or getting files to someone who simply does not use email much. Folders are two-way too, so the other person can upload files back to you with the same 3 words.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the recipient's email address?+

No. Skypost never asks for anyone's email address to send a file. You share the 3-word password yourself.

Does the recipient need an account?+

No. They go to skypost.co.uk/receive, type the 3 words and download.

Can I still send the link by email if I want to?+

Yes. You can share the words or the link through any channel, including email. It is just not required.

Is it safe to send the password by text?+

For everyday files, yes. For sensitive files, send the words through a different channel from the link, and delete the folder once it has been downloaded.

How long do the files stay up?+

Free folders expire after 7 days and are then deleted automatically.
